چکیده

Current predictors of speech intelligibility are inadequate for understanding and predicting speech confusions caused by acoustic interference. We develop a model of auditory speech processing that includes a phenomenological representation of the action of the Medial Olivocochlear efferent pathway and that is capable of predicting consonant confusions made by normal hearing listeners in speech-shaped Gaussian noise. We then use this model to predict human error patterns of initial consonants in consonant–vowel– consonant words in the context of a Dynamic Rhyme Test. In the process we demonstrate its potential for speech discrimination in noise. Our results produced performance that was robust to varying levels of stationary additive speech-shaped noise and which mimicked human performance in discrimination of synthetic speech as measured by the Chi-squared test. 2009 Elsevier B.V. IMPLEMENTATION OF EXTENDED KALMAN FILTER TO REDUCE NON CYCLO-STATIONARY NOISE IN AERIAL GAMMA RAY SURVEY

Gamma-ray detection has an important role in the enhancement the nuclear safety and provides a proper environment for applications of nuclear radiation. To reduce the risk of exposure, aerial gamma survey is commonly used as an advantage of the distance between the detection system and the radiation sources. One of the most important issues in aerial gamma survey is the detection noise. Various...

Non-auditory Effects Caused by Environmental Noise Pollution

Noise pollution is one of the prominent environmental problems affecting human health especially in developing countries. The impacts of noise on health should not be underestimated. Exposure to acoustical stimuli impairs not only the function of auditory system but also that of many other systems of human body. Previous investigations revealed that noise exposure could result in sleep disturba...

An Efferent-Inspired Auditory Model Front-End for Speech Recognition

In this paper, we investigate a closed-loop auditory model and explore its potential as a feature representation for speech recognition. The closed-loop representation consists of an auditory-based, efferent-inspired feedback mechanism that regulates the operating point of a filter bank, thus enabling it to dynamically adapt to changing background noise. With dynamic adaptation, the closed-loop...

Using Auditory Feedback and Rhythmicity for Diphone Discrimination of Degraded Speech

We describe a computational model of diphone perception based on salient properties of peripheral and central auditory processing. The model comprises an efferent-inspired closed-loop model of the auditory periphery connected to a templatematching neuronal circuit with a gamma rhythm at its core. We show that by exploiting auditory feedback a place/rate model of central processing is sufficient...

مدل میکروسکوپی دوگوشی مبتنی بر فیلتر بانک مدولاسیون برای پیش گویی قابلیت فهم گفتار در افراد دارای شنوایی عادی

In this study, a binaural microscopic model for the prediction of speech intelligibility based on the modulation filter bank is introduced. So far, the spectral criteria such as the STI and SII or other analytical methods have been used in the binaural models to determine the binaural intelligibility. In the proposed model, unlike all models of binaural intelligibility prediction, an automatic ...
